Why is there a unused display board painted black inside my door after a repair?

Problem: The door has a missing support piece in one of the unused display areas. This missing piece will make it very easy to push in the blank overlay and cause a leak inside the door. This will result in corrosion damage to any display boards installed.

Solution: Instead of spending the money replacing the door assembly. The economical solution is to use a destroyed old display board (C1900-0275) to fill that opening. This way, the display board will give the opening the support it needs to resist leakage.  In order to make it clear that the board is non-functional, we remove all connection components and paint the board black.
